Just what we see….

I have been driving the same route to town for the about three years. It is very beautifully winding country road. I know this road pretty well as I have to drive it every day. On Sunday just passed I was taking my son to a rugby sports fixture and the number of things I saw on that road, that I had not noticed before was amazing. I saw a couple of houses, a tree, and a hill. I was quite shocked to be honest. It just goes to show we never know anything quite as well as we think.

One of the great freedoms of modern western culture is the right to hold a point of view. Nobody in the world may agree with you but you are entitled in this democracy to speak your mind. If one is given such a fantastic opportunity then surely they should use it. All too often it seems that people would rather avoid a confrontation and instead talk about cows and sheep (meaning nothing).

One of the reason that I love the Jewish faith is that they are encouraged to discuss and actively debate their faith. It is through debating subjects that we establish the reason behind our choices and logic.

Whether that be through are interactions with other people or simple generosity, One could argue that is creating your own luck and I would tend to go along with that. How we perceive the world is due very much to our sight. Half the Brain is used for the sight function. Yet what is sight? A lenses, a camera lens, a picture. All these three are very important. A camera lens amazing as it may seem is in reality very primitive. It is purely a mechanism for catching light. Unfortunately it is not very unique. Hence why photos are really an optical illusion and why some people will look great in photos and others well…. just probably do not keep any photos at all.

With the advent of the digital camera are world has become more reliant on numbers as a way of explaining reality. By this I mean the digitising of information. For those less technical of you who are reading this, all computer information can be broken down in ones zeros. So your favourite photo, piece music to a computer is just a zero or one.

One may realise at this point the limit of technology and why people will pay vast sums to have a particular art hanging in there home.
